Power consumption issues, March 4, 2010
By Andyman

"I purchased the 500gb liquid blue model. I read that the device is USB powered and did not research the power consumption until after I purchased the device. The device runs off of 4.5 peak watts. While the maximum output for a USB 2.0 is only 2.5watts. The blue led stays on while the device is idle, when i try to store or extract information the blue led turns off and the data transfer is extremely slow(<.1mbps) in essence the device turns off. That must be why it has an optional "y" cable. I haven't purchased the y cable but I've read in other reviews that it does not help. I plan to return the device for a refund."

no supporting documentation, January 2, 2010
By gypsy from Boise ID

"there was no supportinf documentation and it may be plug & play but you still need to manually set the files you want it to copy. I do not believe this is very user friendly and it appears to be extremly slow I would not recomend this to anyone"

Brilliant design looks great and contains 500 GIGs, November 21, 2009
By Stoker from Huntington, WV

"I needed a little extra insurance saving a lot of photographs and music and didn't know who to purchase from. I checked the customer reviews at Amazon and they were all positive -- most others had horror stories of their brand failing after a short time. Got it and it works just as it should, looks great, is remarkable for its' capacity in such a small size and I'm very pleased with my decision to get a Toshiba. I may get another."

great portable drive, October 29, 2009
By KB from Omaha, NE

"I have an older 120G and upgraded to a 500G. Both drives were simple plug-n-play. Neither has ever given my a problem. If you want them to use NFS you'll have to convert them yourself, it took about 15 min. for the 500G. Being USB powered was a must for use with my laptop. Great drives for the money."

Great Laptop Backup Device, October 19, 2009
By SCIFMAN from Denver, CO

"I've had IOMEGA and others in our lab. This original 100 GB product is the best. Had it almost a year. We have critical DOD data and this can be used as a external drive but I use it as a backup and deployment device. The same drive works seemlessly on all our laptops and Desktops across all Windows OS levels and that now includes Windows 7. The only Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade from Vista that went flawlessly was on Toshiba Laptops. Don't even try to Updgrade Windows seven on a "Quad Core Desktop Vista Machine""

"Hard drive I have is similar to this one. Worked good for first 6 months, then became sensitive and ejected itself from my computer automatically. There was no help from the website. Only choice was to send it in (I have to pay for shipping)."

Good External Hard Drive, September 11, 2009
By jrm523 from Savannah, GA

"This usb external hard drive is very easy to use. Decent transfer rates and it runs quietly. I have had very few but some compatibility issues with recognizing the hard drive but this problem has not happened enough to blame the hard drive. Be sure to shop around to get a good deal."
