aSATA problem fixed, November 12, 2009

"The fix (in my case) was to cut a tiny bit of the rubber back from the connector so that it fits slightly deeper into the socket. The concave curve of the case prevents the cable from properly seating into the socket.
I trimmed about 1 mm back from each end and problem solved.!
Disc works well now on eSATA port."

"This hard drive is great as far as noise, but it shuts off after 5 minutes of idle.

To fix this create and run this batch file. Run it each time you want to keep the hard drive active.

To create the file, open notepad and save the file as keepalive.bat on your c: drive.

(NOTE: enter [these] as specified information and remove the brackets)

[Toshiba HDD drive letter]:

mkdir DELETE
choice /c yn /t 120 /d y /m "Keep this window open or your hard drive will go idle and turn off."

"The unit lit up when turned on, but the drive was not recognized on a PC or a Mac. No quality control any more?

Customer service is found via Toshiba's website or toll-free number unless you use the term "Acclaim" (which did not appear on the box for this item)."

"I just got mine and it seems to working great. I noticed where some were having problems with the Standby mode. I found in the FAQ/Troubleshooting area where it gives directions on how to handle this...

Your computer may have gone into Sleep/Standby mode. Touch any key or move the mouse to wake up the computer. You can change the Sleep/Standby mode settings in your computer’s Power Options found in the Control Panel."

Says can't install volume, September 26, 2009

"I plugged this into my windows xp system and it says can't install volume. The virtual CD comes up but i can't select anything because the Hard drive doesn't seem to work with windows? Tried looking for drivers etc... can't find anything. I think i'm going to return this as it doesn't seem to work at all. Wasted about an hour and a half trying to get it to do something. I have another external hard drive and it works fine but it was low on space so i bought this but looks like i will have to find another external hard drive because i can't get it to work."

It has done this to me in the middle of projects and uploads about a dozen times in the past 12 hours.

I'm debating whether or not I want to use it as a frisbee."

External eSATA & USB Drive 1TB, August 22, 2009

"I purchased this drive to back up my large storage in my desktop. The eSATA connection has backed up at a consistent 500+MB per minute for the entire backup. I have two RAIDs (SATA) one is striped and the other mirrored. I was a bit fearful of the striped RAID however running WIN 7 RC I haven't had a failure. Just to be safe I purchased this drive and backed up the entire 800gb drives in about a day, I know backing up using the USB would have taken three or four days. I am suitability impressed with the ease of the install (you must use the USB to set the drive up first) then using the eSATA connection seems to be so very fast. I haven't had any problems as described by the first reviewer and my experience with this drive is GREAT. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a dependable drive with GREAT speed and very simple back up software.

Not newbie friendly, August 19, 2009

"I just got this as a gift. The user guide and all the information I need is inside but it does not know what program to use to open so I selected the go online to check option and it could not figure it out either. I have been using it for a video project but it keeps shutting off and making me lose my work. I have to stay glues to my computer and keep clicking on files in the drive to keep it active.
This is not great when it takes 5 hours to burn a DVD movie project. I am very upset over it and want to figure out how to make the power stay on until I am ready to shut it off. This should be simple but it is not because I cannot access the user manual."
