"Not a bad pc for the money. First thing I did was up ram to 2 gig. New needed to before bought it. Even with that was still less $ than most others, and budget was important. Would rate performance a 4 after increased ram. Don't like Vista but all have it now. I would buy another if needed one and my guess is will replace with another Toshiba when time comes."

"Bought the machine because my other laptop crashed and I needed an interim replacement. It served it's purpose for that, but running Vista with only 512GB of memory is an experience in slow motion (ran better when I added another 1GB chip). Overall, it performed adequately after the memory was added. Highly recommend you do not sell this machine without at least 1GB of memory, and preferably 2GB. With only 512MB it is not a usable machine due to the slowness. Weight, equipment, etc. was okay as was bundled software, although trying to activate MS Office was another "experience" I'd rather not have. Sold the machine to a friend who found it adequate for his use."

"The computer is great, but unfortunetely it came w/ VISTA; so, it makes it run very slow to start and to close and if you are running an antivirus program--forget it- everything stops running. I had to order an upgrade to increase memory. Normally, it takes a few months to upgrade a computer, but this one; off the bat, I had to order a 1GB upgrade; Then, I learned that it takes 2GB to run ViSTA - Someone didn't plan. Another issue is the program, I have to buy Word, Excel, and PP? no, is not right. I am very unhappy with it and disappointed."

"I have a brother in-law who is I.T. When I decided to buy one (computer), I went to him and asked what would be a good laptop to buy. He informed me that they were all basically alike, that I should shop around to see what kind of deal I could come up with. So I shopped. And the best deal I could dome up with for the money I had was your product. I use it for school and it is perfect for what I need. I like things when they are easy to use, and I am having a blast with this one. On a personal note my brother in-law happens to think you guys have great product also, he is why I bought this one."

"I purchased my Satellite second hand but in brand new shape. My first impression was MAN IS THIS THING SLOW!!!!! Then I got into the properties and realized it only had half the RAM MS reccomends to run Vista. A minimum of 1 gig is what vista needs to run smooth, so I boosted to 2 gig. Now it runs fine with no problems at all. If I had to say anything bad about the laptop it would be the battery life is extremely short, even with the network card turned off. Make sure you take your power cord with you if you go somewhere that you would use it for more than an hour. And I haven't figured out how to get rid of the annoying flash card tabs at the top of the screen. Otherwise for the price it is a fantastic product. I bought a second one for a family member."

"Solid performer, purchased as a bargain interim unit, against the typical MicroSoft developmental issues with Windows Vista. But- I don't think I'll replace this unit until it's worn out, and that may be a while. My wife just stopped using a Satellite she bought in '95 that still works just fine."

"I picked up this laptop at a good price. The first thing I noted was that the darn thing had Vista Home loaded on it. With only 512MB of RAM, that isn't nearly enough to run Vista. It was slow to start, slow to close, and slow to do most anything that required RAM. My anti-virus program runs scans, and when it did, I couldn't do anything else. All the RAM was dedicated to the scan. So I had to upgrade the RAM very soon, due to Vista. The battery life is not good either. Toshiba offers an 8-cell battery with better life, but the laptop ships with only a 6-cell. Don't care for the Toshiba utilities either. They pop up at the top of the screen (I don't why what I'm doing to make them pop up), and I can't easily get them to go away. Anyway, after adding a laptop mouse (hate touchpads), upgrading the RAM and turning off the Google sidebar (loads by default and slows the system down terribly!), it's a pretty decent computer. Still not happy with only 80GB HD, but I'll live with it. The wireless antenna works well and overall I'm happy with it. I wouldn't have wanted to pay full price for it, though. It just isn't powerful enough for the Vista OS. I'd been happier if it shipped with XP Pro."

"this laptop will be excellent but it's battery life is low . And major problem is that it can't work with all operating system like windows xp,windows xp sp2 and windows nt or windows 2000.If one of theme we install than driver can't support which is given in cd threw ur company. And if we find this driver in website than we can get driver which is only support on VISTA not TO xp2.So company should put driver on their site which can support all operating system."

"I have owned a few laptops for work, school, and play For the price of this laptop it cannot be beat, it’s a little slow and I think a memory upgrade would improve that, start up and shutdown are slow but I have had other vista computers that are the same way. I find the keyboard a little clumsy especially the tap key and the location of the delete key So for the price, this laptop cannot be beat, it has a lot of the same features of higher priced laptops As for the performance, I’ve had laptops around the same price and found them not to perform as well as this one. And this one performs as well as some of the higher priced ones that I've had"

"Very great deal. The only limitation is the 512mb of ram. you will definatally upgrade that. i bought another 512 stick and it runs great(20$). I dont understand why toshiba would sell it with only 512 ram with vista though. Overall good deal and runs great with the ram upgrade."

"I bought this laptop from BestBuy for $529. And I think it worth it. Have read many other reviews which i think are totally not true. If you want to use Vista then you will definitely need to upgrade memory. I added 1GB to original 512MB and let me say that I have run Windows Server 2008 Beta 3 on this system and the system performs well. Other than that I have used Vista Business and recently upgraded Vista Home Basic to Vista Home Premium, couldn't find a problem. I read someone saying that graphics card is the biggest limitation, which is not correct cause I am enjoying all the features that comes standard with Windows Aero."
