"The HDD adapter for the ultra slim bay, along with a hard drive, has proven to be my most valuable accessory. While external hard drives are great for backups, the extra storage provided by an extra internal HDD is invaluable - it allows me to keep huge collections of the data, files, websites, music & video, graphics files - and archived files that I only need on occassion (but at the most inconvenient moments) - readily accessible and at hand. And I don't have to carry anything extra, because it's right in my laptop. It weighs next to nothing, and only consumes battery when I'm using it (doesn't diminish my M700 battery life by much). Most software now is either downloadable or installed once and doesn't require the disks again; I rarely watch DVD or listen to CD and what I do watch/listen is usually on iTunes, so I don't need to keep a DVD drive with me. An added bonus is that since I keep all working files and storage files on a seperate HDD, and only software on my primary hard drive, it's easier to backup and maintain - and should software crash, all my files on the extra drive can be accessed without rescue software."

Not a snug fit,December 8, 2008

"This slim bay adapter fits a standard notebook (2.5") just fine, but the drive is not snug when installed. It's as if the drive needs a cage or adapter of some sort. I was able to fashion a device made of leftover plastic for the sides and a little bit of foam for the back side of the drive which makes it snug.
I'm glad Toshiba gave plenty of room, but they really should include a sled to hold a drive firmly in place. It's nice to have the capability to have a second drive in a Portege M700, but it needs to be complete when shipped."

Too big for 2.5' HDD,April 2, 2008

"I bought an extra HDD and installed it into the adaptor. Surprisingly, the HDD is too small for the adaptor and does not lock in the adaptor securely. The HDD simply dangles on it through the connector. I could use it with some adhesive tapes, but I decided to return it."
