"This is the fourth Toshiba laptop I have bought for our family (3 still going, one finally died after spending 5 years with my son who is now only 14). I upgraded to the A8 4500M processor, because my son's newer Toshiba had an AMD quad core processor and I was impressed with it's ability to play nearly any game out there. For me, this was a serious upgrade from an ASUS 1215T. I view this as the ideal budget, portable gaming laptop. The 14" screen is superb, sound very good, and the processor has had no issues or lag with anything I have tried to run. The graphics are better than Intel HD4000, too, which is great for playing games, surfing the web, or streaming Netflix. Battery life is a bit shorter than I'd like (running around 3-4 hours with fairly heavy use), but then again I have been spoiled by netbooks for the past 5ish years and always hope for a good 8 hours run time.
Not having a touchscreen, I must say I'm not a fan of Window's 8's tiled starting screen...I do not find it user friendly, but I can imagine someone who is less of an amatuer hack might really like it. Me, I downloaded Classic Shell and haven't looked back...the computer now looks close enough to Windows 7 with a desktop and start menu but runs like it's Windows 8 (I do think the under the hood changes are good). I'm also pleased to report it plays all my GOG games without issue despite the OS upgrade.
All in all, I couldn't be happier. Toshiba direct was very responsive to two questions I had, and shipping was substantially faster than expected."

"Did upgrade to A8 and am pretty happy with the processor . Quite comparable with i5 ( third generation ) and runs pretty cool , with average 15-18 W on power and 7-10 W on battery . Have seldom seen CPU utilisation above 15% ( Kudos to Microsoft they have been able to keep system CPU utilisation 4-8% ) . The integrated graphics are great much better than HD 4000 .
Saved $100 by not looking at i5 - 3210 , and would invest in 64 GB SSD ( ~ $100) for a super fast performance .
The form factor is very clean and indeed light weight . Though CD ROM could have been a little better .
Overall a good product !
< Create a recovery CD for Window 8 the moment you get your system ( just need a 256 MB USB drive / CD rom ) , hard to find one online ( torrent ) and Toshiba C/C technical know how is quite dated on helping with windows 8 recovery ... I happen to crash my system while making a dual boot and landed up being alone fixing the issue >"

"For a "Budget" or "Value" class notebook this truly is a good deal. I would highly recommend getting the AMD A8-4500 APU. I can play some modern games at medium settings with little to no hiccups!
I made several upgrades after purchase that will allow it to rival and surpass those "premium" class notebooks. Added 2 sticks of performance RAM (8gb 1.6ghz), and installed the fastest SSD at this time, upgraded OS from win7 to win8 Pro.
Speakers are pretty good when comparing them to other notebooks. They get loud enough for all to hear.
I also went out and bought a cooling pad for when im at home (where I use it most) . This will help keep it cool, and maybe extend its life.
So far I can only get the battery to last a little over 2 hrs and all i was doing was watching netflix, which is a little sad. I will have to see if there is more tweaking I can do to extend battery life.
The only thing I really dont like is the build quality of the keyboard. It seems really flimsy. I wish it were back lit as well. But it is a Budget notebook after all.
Overall I am very pleased with this notebook, WELL DONE TOSHIBA!"

"Happy with the product performance for hardware perspective .
Audio quality seems to little substandard , Everyone these days carry expensive headphone which makes up for this deficiency.
Would have preferred a CD tray loader than a drive ."
